day 3 should be very interesting with the money so close for so may player. The good players should pick up loads of small pots by just raising because i would expect it to be very tight for some.

is it just me or does anyone else think the winner should be looking at a minimum of 25-30% of the total prize pool (i.e. $27.2m for first!!)?

With such a large field I think it's fine to spread this humongous sum of money out like this, not as if the winner is going to feel shortchanged after all :)

No. That would have 50,000 players in Vegas next year, with a $120m first prize.

Prize pool is so huge that 14-15% is still more then enough to the winner, I certainly wouldn't be complaining!

Is $12M the biggest prize in any sport? It dwarfs anything in golf, tennis etc.
Boxing and its 'purses' is about all I can think of which might challenge it.

why do big strong men like Mike Tyson box the heads off each other just to win a small item of ladies apparel?

Say there was an Irish person and an American player headsup. If the american wins he has to pay a huge amount of tax, if the irish person wins 1st he doesn't pay tax.
Could the collude so that irish comes first and then pays off the american so that he escapes paying tax?

It could be done but there would have to be a huge element of trust.
And the US Taxman may come after you years down the line for a sum which dwarfs the original amount.

    P.S. Groannnnnn at ElStuntman !!!

hold on a second!! I thought you did get taxed. didnt Andy get taxed on his winnings last year??? think I remember a post about that.

And when I played the Caesars tourney I was told I would have to get my passport and to fill out a Tax form if I was to finish in the top 9 - which I didnt get to in the end, so not sure exactly what would have happened.

If you have the relevant forms filled out you don't have to pay tax since Ireland is one of the countries that has a tax treaty with the US allowing you to pay the Irish tax on gambling (0%) as opposed to the US one (loads).

Harrahs are a bunch of ****s so that is why they were trying to withold tax from everyone last year regardless of forms or tax treaties.

afaik if you are european you still have to fill in the forms and then get the taxed amount removed from your cashout, but as soon as you get back to Ireland or wherever you fill in some more forms proving you are an irish resident (and therefore don't pay tax on poker) and they send on the balance of your winnings.

They didnt get away with that did they?

Another question which may seem stupid...how do the player collect their winning...do they get a cheque straight away?

Boxing has had well over this purse on a few occasions. Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, first fight out of prison and back in boxing, made $25 million from his one fight and $15 million in signing bonuses.

Roy Jones J made 10 million for the Ruiz fight, plus 60% of the PPV revenue.

Lewis made 11 million for the Rahman rematch and that was when he was the challenger and 40% revenue.

Oscar De La Hoya got $15 million for Yory BoyCampas and in 2003 signed a deal moving forward $20million a fight.

If Lennox came back he'd make $20-$30 Million a fight.

this as happened, not with a Irish player but a dutch player or something like that. The American's are well aware that we dont pay tax, so a deal is very possible when you get heads up or even 3 way in a big game. The card rooms here will also advice you of it.

I still haven't got my TAIN no, will wait until today is over, dont want to tempted faith.

Theres a huge difference between a deal (we change the prizemoney slightly but the game is played above board) in that example and collusion (I'll let you win cause you don't pay tax and we'll split the difference) which Lafortezza asked about.
All the best in the ME.

So a final table deal (i know it will never happen but we all like talking about big bucks) would work out around 4.2 million.

    Goddamnit.
I knew I should have blown the rest of my SSIA money and stayed on in Vegas for the main event!
