    OK
I went to play gmod and suddenly my monitor started going crazy with like...

when the signal on a tv goes bad but not fully gone

I took a screenshot of it (part of my desktop) Im not sure if it will show up for you but i will try anyway
    crappyscreenmb4.jpg
It happened this moring and when I left it for a few hours and wiggle the cables it was back, for a few mins :( I tryed to play gmod and it cacked out on me again:mad:

So I am going to try an old monitor I have and the GFX card drivers

Any other suggestions (me is hoping my dad will get a new monitor)

PS: the monitor is an 3-4 year old dell monitor, I am guessing a 21" one as its quite large

EDIT: the other monitor is the very same :(
begining to think it could be the mobo

boot up pc,in safe mode, 800by 600, press monitor menu button, press degauss , leave on ,5 minutes, switch off ,after 5minutes, turn on monitor, if picture still bad, press monitor menu ,button, reset to default settings, you can also set display propertys, advanced, graphic adaptor, refresh rate to 6omhz,no more than 60.

It looks more like a dodgy vga cable to me. Do what gamer suggested for a start.

Christ Gamer you give great advice, but its really hard to read.

YOU could borrow old vga card, off sumbody, agp or pci even ,to make sure its not monitor.Take out the agp card firstcard.YOU may need to go to bios, witsh from agp vga to onboard ,vga.SOME MONITORS HAVE PLUG IN VGA CABLE,TRY another cable ,borrow one.

That is caused by the graphics card going wrong, nothing to do with the monitor at all.

years ago i had similar ,problem, turns out i was running pc card at a higher res than monitor could display so ,i went down to 800x600res,then bought a monitor that could handle 1024x768.try safe mode f8 hold down key, after turning on pc.try 16bit mode in display, propertys.

it looks exactly the same as an old monitor i had years ago, judging by the picture.

Well its not the monitor, I have run it at higher res before and the monitor is perfect when used with my dads laptop, sadly the cable isnt switchable but I don't think its that as it perfect with the laptop.
the pushed the graphics card up a litle bit and it was half as bad, but its still not good :(

    BUT

    this could mean a RAM upgrade to 1.5gigs and a 7800GS :D

    thanks so far evryone

It is NOT a monitor problem, you could not take a screen shot of a monitor fault, It would be like tring to take a screenshot of a fly on you monitor:D

Im not exctly sure where the screenshot is taken from? so it may just be a windows problem..

Just reinstall windows, unless you want an excuse to upgrade your graphics card:p

this looks like a dead card to me. same sort of thing happened me twice, and the card was busted both times (both 9800pro's that overheated i think)

    Hey
Yeah its the card, Not sure if its a goner tho, HOPE SO!
I will try find an old agp card to test first! that sceenshot was taken of the bottunm left corner of my desktop, it was alot worse it just doesn't show up as bad in the screenshot:(

    gamer,
You spend a way too much time testing on your mobile!

    Flunked,
If you did a print screen to get that picture then its 100% the graphics cards fault as Monitors are only output devices.
If on the other hand the above picture was taken by a camera then it could be the fault of either.

Im guessing it was a printscreen....so graphics adapter is shot.

I suggest you clean your graphics card as it might be overheating(GPU or RAM)....as you can get similar artifacts when you overclock GFX cards.
Try underclocking the card and see what happens!

yes it is a printscreen job;) Ill try clean the card soon :) and underclock it, thanks

so its not the monitor, its a good chance to upgrade ,get 256meg card if you play fps games ,3d games ,look up benchmarks be4 you buy any card.LOOK at bios increase memory aperture for the grahics slot.

OK I think I'l get my dad to get an upgrade :) 1gb of ram and 7800GS from komplett!

and if the 9800PRO isnt gone after I upgrade I can put it in an old computer I got (with ram upgrade)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 104 ✭✭GenericName

Hey, have you been overclocking my 9800Pro! I spent my hard earned cash on that card!
If you upgrade the card get a cheap one. I would prefer to wait til the DirectX 10 cards come out and buy a new PC entirely (Conroe, PC2-6400, etc etc).
DON'T reinstall windows yet. I have too much to risk losing on that PC. I'll be home soon enough and I'll back up.

never over clocked, would of been nice to tho:D yeah Ill try track down a cheap card and...
if you buy the new comptuer will you move out with it:mad:
