USB Card Reader problems

    Hi,

I've been having some problems with card readers in Windows XP Pro. Various card readers and various PCs..
Problem is this ; when I put a card into the reader, it seems to detect fine (usually using CF, but have also had problems with other types), I can navigate the folders on the card sometimes, but when I try to copy from it, I either get "Please insert a disk in drive xx:" or explorer becomes unresponsive.

This problem is even affecting a brand-new PC with a 3.5" internal card reader that connects directly to some of the USB jumpers on the motherboard.

At the moment, I'm reduced to connecting the camera to the PC to transfer files across, which is less than ideal in terms of battery life.

    Any ideas?

Is there any drivers that came with the card reader? Try reinstalling those or gettin the most up to date if available.

According to the manufacturer (AC Ryan), there's no drivers needed with it - Windows picks it up and uses default 'Generic' drivers

Did it ever work properly or just all of a sudden stop working correctly? Have you other USB hubs you can connect it to?
