Have decided to buy a house/apartment with my other half... Problem being, I have realised I may have to sell my soul and maybe some other more tangible body parts (e.g. kidney) to afford one. I'm only a young thing but I feel I need to do this - its pains me to have to hand over a lob of money every month to a fat cat landlord when I could be that fat cat landlord... :D Anywho, is it worth it? Move away from my hectic social life of the city centre to the schticks??? Maybe I should just cut my losses altogether and move out of the city altogether to the (gasp) country...

Dump your girlfriend, and move in with your parents. Easy.

If you want to buy a house, I'd definitely recommend going abroad. The Irish property market is at best unpredictable at the moment...

Or just stay where you are. Why move if you don't want to?

Move to an english speaking part of canada

    reasons
    1) English - easy communication
    2) Free health care
    3) Great standard of living
    4) House prices aren't insane

im thinking of doing the same pretty soon with my other half...
im not earning a huge amount of money bcos im only an apprentice, and im skeptical of the way the irish property market is..

however, i dont want to be paying "dead money" to someone anymore.
i would prefer to have a mortgage... obviously a house in the city is out of the question without a large investment from "the parents"

but did you concider all your options?
what about the affordable housing scheme? its targetted at people like yourselves, who want to buy a house but dont have a huge income...
i believe its people who earn less than somewhere around the 35k a year mark, but there are terms and conditions to it, like you cant rent the complete house out, and you cant sell for 20 or so years, and if you do, a large % of the profit goes to the county council...

might be worth thinking about if your that eager to stay somewhere away from the schticks!

If you have doubts, don't do it.
If the relationship fails later on, you'll have a house to fight over. And that will be UGLY!!!!
Maybe ask the boyfriend "What's wrong with getting married first and then buying the house?" Your answer from him will give you a good indication of what your future with him will entail.

Where abouts? I've looked at Prague for buy to rent, but the rental market looks poor over there.

I hear buying property in Cyprus is a good investment these days. Look into though as I'm not 100% sure.

Beautiful island in the Med for sure Lady J! Grand weather, clean air, aqua sea, a nice beach or two, and yes, great prices relative to Ireland. But there might be a reason for the low prices? Something about the Greeks and the Turks splitting the island in half and not getting along too well?

    God yes! Bulgaria!

It's not often you hear of people going there but this summer half of the people I know have gone there.

Seems to be building up it's tourist industry. I'd seriously consider it if I were you.

Now back to the soul, have you partaken in any of the seven deadly sins, infact please list the bad sins you have committed. Depending on how good/bad you are I probably will have a couple of takers for it.

€100 for the soul , this is boards.ie after all !!.

Do you have the receipt, any missing emotions and what sort of life is left in it ?

Also, have you tried to return it to where you got it ?, you might be able to get a refund if its still under warrenty.

Eh, in a word, no... I excused myself quickly by saying I was in urgent need of a pee...

Right seven deadly sins: pride (yep), envy (I do wanna be ange jolie), gluttony (am partial to a chicken burger after a night on the beer, two counts there), greed (I love the €€€), lust (refer to person named in envy, well, and her new fella), sloth (no, definitely not, am a clean freak), anger (sometimes have irrational outbursts but just trying to fill the stereotype...)

The OP may want to stall a bit on buying a house? There have been several articles lately suggesting that housing is generally overvalued and that the bubble in the housing market just might burst sometime soon, with prices falling. Worth checking out?
