Well I started surfing this summer have had a few lessons and me and a mate have decided to give it a solid go, both are in the process of getting wetsuits, he went for a 3mm but i ve decided to go for 5mm. I want something I can use all year around. One problem is a board I was told I'd need around 7ft something :S, I myself am 5ft 10in or so. I was told to kit me out completely would be around the £300 mark, but I figure its cheaper than snowboarding and a lot more acessiable. Can any1 give me and pointers on getting started and gearing up dont really want to find out down the line I've wasted money or bought the wrong thing.

If you can get kitted out for 300 you will be doing well. More like 500. You will probably need board + leash + fins + bag + roof straps + booties + wax. I am 6', 13 st and comfortable on a 7'9" to start off after learning on 9' foamies. You should really try different boards to see what suits you. Good luck.
