Hi there getting a motorised dish installed over the coming weeks what size dish would I need to get the following channels:

    Digital ALB
    ART Arebesque

PS - If it makes any difference I am going to be using the dish for Sky digital as well.

    Thanks

A 90CM would get all those channels for you. it would easily pick up art on 13east as it is on a good strong beam and digitalb should be fine as well, sky will be no hassle. 45cm in places would nearly get you it. To be safe and tbh if you are going for motorised I would go with either a 1metre or 1.2.

There are a lot of handy feeds that appear. and the extra size will come in very handy.

The Triax have a dish about 90 x 96 cm. Light so good for motor. I have sprayed the bare shiny arm and back mount that bolts across the rear of dish with "Plasticote" Magnolia Radiator paint.

As an experiment I am trying the lightweight Triax 100 x 110cm dish on the Moteck motor. It has two extra bits of metal, one slides inside main daish rear mount and one inside the pole mount bracket to stiffen it. The weight is OK for the motor (most stress at 42E and 58W), but wind load could be an issue.

The vertical elipse shape gives more complete illumination of LNBF than a circular edge with an offset mount.

It is bringing in 40E and 25.5E quite well, but I never had them programmed into the receiver when using the 80cm Lidl dish.

Unfortunately while you can manually add transponders to the Palcom DSL 4, adding a new satellite position requires edit on PC. I can't get the SW to run reliably on Win XP, but OK on Win98 as long as you add new satellite to end of list. If you insert a new satellite into the list the SW crashes during save of the file.

I'd regard the light 1.1 x 1.0 Triax as max size for a Motek H-H Diseqc motor, larger or heavier you really need a 36V motor system with Diseqc adaptor. If you are very exposed, maybe the 90x 96cm Triax max. My Dish location is fairly sheltered. (Probabily I am blocked by houses beyond 42E or 45W)

    Watty,

It's been a while since we debated the pros/cons of various displays for HD etc. With all the hype that SKY have been putting out it's ironic (for me) that the ol' BBC has provided the best HD images by far - and they're free!!! I've sent a snottogram to SKY asking why they won't sort out a facility on the SKY box to record from the "other channels" menu, but that's another story!

Anyway, I'd like your valuable advice on the Triax 100x110 dish, please. I have a (separate from my SKY setup) 90cm dish on a Motek motor and get good 42E to 58W reception but there are marginal channels which won't quite lock and I reckon I could do with a dish upgrade, but I'm not prepared to go down the huge dish and 36v positioner route just yet! What's been your experience with the bigger Triax dish, who supplies it? I got my current dish and motor from Tony in satellite.ie and I must say it's been great but I think I need a bigger one (oo'er missus!). Any views on a good feed hunting receiver? I've been using a Dreambox 7020 and I've installed a 40GB hard disk, but I'm not interested in the encrypted channels, more interested in extreme fringe reception and flexibility in searching for new transponders/channels. I would be getting rid of the Dreambox - do you think there would be a market for it? I use the Hydra image on the Dreambox as I found it the best compromise between facilities and stability.
