Need to turn garage into a storage place for kids toys, but 1st need the roof (that metal thin crap) waterproof.

There are some leaks in it , would tar be enough if poured over? Mate can hang a ceiling in it but need it waterproof 1st and as it just to keep kids toys in and insect /earwig free not spending thousands on it, as once the ceiling is up and a wooden floor down it should keep the toys clean till next summer.

What kind of tar is needed or shold the iron thingies be replaced?

Some tar flashing is what I'd use. Try for the kind you don't need a blow torch for. Role it out alone the joint between you're roof and wall, half and half, secure it to the wall in places as needed, making sure its flat and smooth all along the wall. Then mould it in and around you meteal roof(I've persuming it's the curvy kind) You might need heat it in some places to insure full contact with the wall and roof.

    Hi Kdjac,

Are the roof timbers strong ?

If they are one option for a long lasting roof would be to cross lath it with 75mm x 44 mm (3" x 2") timbers and insulate between the timbers, you can then fix a cladding sheet to the new timbers.

You will need a few accessories but nothing major, one problem with tar like sealants is they tend to dry out and crack also they will not stop condensation dripping off the roof ruining your new ceiling.
