Shut down dialog box

When I click "Turn off Computer" on windows xp, the shut down dialog box takes up to 3 minutes to appear on screen. I am wondering what the problem could be. The problem mainly occours after using internet explorer. I recently had a new motherboard installed (Elitegroup P4M800-M), could this have anything to do with it.

Sounds like a strange one...motherboard "could" having something to do with it but I doubt it,more likely that your XP install has become a bit messed up perhaps and needs a repair install or a good defrag and spyware/virus scan? the latter two can never do any harm!

when new mobo was installed were all the mobo specific drivers installed?
check your event logs for any errors at the time of shutdown.. usually best to clear it then try shut down.. and check it when you boot back up for errors that could explain it..

If i had to hazard a guess.. windows is trying to shut down a driver off the old mobo etc that is no longer there.

Does the mobo have built-in modem/card that you use to connect to the Internet by any chance?
Otherwise, unplug from 'Net, nuke startup items from msconfig. Test. Still and issue: nuke non-MS services, and test.

I would just do a clean install if you have just put in the new mobo and attached everything back in.
