Selling property in Berlin

I am interested in buying property in Berlin. A guy who I knew over there and who now lives in Dublin said that he could help. He said that if I come to a seminar in Dublin I would meet a company which specialises in sorting out all things over there - solicitors, property agents, red type etc. The catch is that to attend this seminar (if you don't like it or don't want to buy property afterwards tough) you must pay 486 euros. You get a refund only if you pay property in Berlin. This is the gest of the story. Now he is putting pressure on and is emailing me every few days. Isn't this illegial and extortionate? I would apprecite anybody with any word of advise to send a note back.

It sounds like a scam to make you attend a property exhibition.

    Yup, sounds dodgy to me.
I've been to a couple of foreign property shows and some you don't need to pay to go to, others it's a nominal fee (like €10).

    My advice? Don't go.

The Guards in Harcourt St have a special 'pyramid schemes' unit, report yer man to it seeing as you have his name .

As per above- how about sending him a short e-mail to the point stating simply,

    - you have no intention of attending the seminar he is involved with
    - you do not want any further correspondence from him on the matter
    - if he persists in contacting you about it you will inform the Gardai that he is harrassing you.

Tip- you can programme certain e-mail addresses to go straight to your junkmail folder, saving you the trouble of ever opening them.

Thanks guys! I have not heard back from the guy and I think he has got the message loud and clear. They are so nice as pie when they think they can get the money but anywards they get abusive. Anyway it is a lesson to anyone. Be careful in who you talk with as sometimes there is always a little trick waiting in the side pocket waiting to trip you up when you least expect it!!
