Simpsons without end?

I thought after the film next year that it might slow down but I guess not. :)
Fox chief says enduring show will outlast him; net wants to add a fifth animated series to Sunday night.

Fox Broadcasting president Peter Liguori has high praise for The Simpsons. The Fox animated series will return for its 18th season this September, and is still showing no signs of slowing down.

"That [success] is a testament to what [executive producers] Al [Jean], Matt [Groening], and Jim [Brooks] are doing with that show," Liguori said while speaking this week at the TV Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, California. "It's really exciting to go into their offices. They are as sharp and dedicated as they've ever been."

Liguori says the future of the show is bright, and thinks the Simpsons movie could bring a new generation of fans.

"We think [the] The Simpsons movie...will introduce a whole new, young audience to the franchise," he said.

He also jokingly predicted the show will outlast him at the network, and beyond.

"I think I'm going to be dead and buried before The Simpsons ever gets removed from the air," he said to laughs.

Liguori also said Fox wants to add to its current roster of animated shows on Sunday, which has been very successful for the network.

"In terms of Sunday-night animation, we are being very aggressive and we are committed to trying to get a fifth animated show on that night," the network head said. "It's a major priority for us. The return of Family Guy and American Dad have really helped us solidify our Sunday night, really helped us with younger males. We want to extend that."

He added that although Fox has been trying to add animated shows, developers have been reticent to come forward to the network.

"It's somewhat frustrating for us," he sighed. "We...offer opportunities to animation creators to come to us. We're hoping to crack it this year."

I'll probably still buy the DVDs for the sake of collecting them but I find myself not watching near as much as I used to.:(

Mid nineties and The Simpsons was hilarious.....it's gone gradually downhill from there to the point that it is only very occasionally funny now. The recent 'brilliant' episode written by Ricky Gervais was about as funny as a case of haemorrhoids....do me a favour !

1995 was the heyday, went slowly downhill after that and plummetted in the last 4 years.

Actaully I have been meaning to ask that . I have all the DVDs (up to season 7)

But from looking at the eps on season 8 and 9 I think season 8 will be the last one I´ll buy. What do you think ? Did new writers come in after season 8 ?
someone mentioned that thats when the show got bad, at season 9.

4F23 - The Principal And The Pauper on season 9 also a good one imo.

Skinner as Armin Tamzarian:"Up yours, children!" :)

That story was a bit dumb tbh but there are worse after that. still a funny episode though. I was watching a few new ones from time to time and i get the joke but still dont laugh cause it just been done before. Maybe it's just gottin stale and hasn't changed like the creators always say.

Most of the newest episodes have been dreadful (especially the overhyped Ricky Gervais one..cannot believe they've asked him to do another)..so God knows how much further downhill its going to go in the future.

Unless by some miracle they pull their act together.

I'd watch it if it was on (and there was nothing better on), but definitely wouldn't go out of my way to watch it!

The worst new one I've seen in recent memory has to be the Sideshow Bob in Italy episode.....*shudder*.....

Yeah, i think they're tryin too hard these days, cos of the success of Family Guy

their tryin to play up the randomness, but cant, cos its a family cartoon

Bart, Lisa and Maggie should grow up a bit

they've been 10 for over 10 years! They're the Simpsons, not Peter fvckin Pan's kids
