    Hey all,

I'm trying to put 512mb into a Dell Dimension 4300.

It currently has 512mb, SDRAM PC133.

I'm putting the exact same into it, but the BIOS doesnt like it at all and the pc won't boot up when I put it in!!

    Any ideas!?

I think 512mb is all that it will recognise.

edit: corrected again, I'm not sure.:) what brand of memory anyway?

Try the new RAM on its own.

If it doesnt boot, then might be a faulty stick!

    Hope this helps.

Ive heard of things like this happening , alot before. Where someone gos out and buys the exact same make and modle of ram that is already in their pc and it dosnt work, its very strange and ive never found out why it happens.

    It's kingston ram.

I tried putting it in on its own but it won't work.

I tried putting a 256mb stick in, aswell as the original 512mb just to make sure the 2 ram banks were working and it worked fine!!

Make sure its the right ram. I've a 4600 and it only takes CAS2.5 or CAS3. You can't mix them either.

Yea sometimes you can get teh "right" RAM and it won't work. I was trying to get extra ram for an IBM laptop. Went to shop4memory, got the right spec but the RAM just wouldn't work. After a few RMAs, they worked out that although the spec of the RAM was correct, it had the wrong chips on it (Infinion, instead so samsung). That was the only difference between the RAM taht worked and the ones that didn't. Don't ask me why though!

In the case it was the wrong ram. Most likely the wrong density. Some machines are fussy about it.
