Sky + Install

I had an engineer come to my house to install Sky + and 1 additional standard sky box in a bedroom . He had everything fitted and he was testing the communication betweent the sky + box and the phone it kept saying phone disconnected . My phone is working fine I can make and recieve calls's no call barring on any numbers or anything like that. He couldnt figure it out he was there for 3 and a half hours he tried numerous phone cables didnt have a different box to test. Anyway the outcome was he pulled the boxes as sky wouldnt allow him to leave them without them working on the line .he told me to get Eirocm to test the line I rang them and they said it was fine . He was talking about a possible problem with the voltage on the line, he was saying something about it having to be 55 volts?? .It sounded like he was clutching at straws my gut feeling is the line is fine. just wondering if anyone has ever come across a situation like this I have re arranged for them to come out I told them the line is fine .

    cheers

Did he have a phone to test on the lines being used by the Sky boxes?

I'd presume that if the lines were OK, then it had to be the box at fault. Sometimes, the pins in the phone socket on the Sky boxes can cross over each other.

What type of phone socket was it plugged into? A few years ago Eircom used what they termed master sockets in their installations, these were rather thick white sockets with a blue logo on the front. There was an issue with these sockets that caused similar problems to yours with pc modems. It may not be your problem but would be worth checking out if you have one of these master sockets.

Patsy, what exact voip setup are you using with Blueface, (i.e Equipment model numbers etc)??

I've been wanting to get Sky HD but have been told a Blueface Voip line wouldnt do.

TA16V as supplied by Blueface itself.

Do you want codec etc. When I rang them to order I told them it was a voip line but they didnt seem to care, and the installer just checked under system test to see if a line was detected, so I'm not sure if I'll have problems further down the road. I can connect to Sky Interactive but its not very reliable.

here ye go, although I dont think it makes any difference. They just check that you have a phone line connected.

Has the box been dialling out itself, making contact with sky?

It would be on your blueface bill.

How bout ordering movies etc? Working?

Don't think its connected by itself yet and hav'nt tried order anything. But I surfed using the interactive browser. The 2.5 min one on the bill. The others were possibly unsuccessful attempts. Not sure

Have you tried ordering. What response did you get when you mentioned voip. I've been a customer for 6 or 7 years, so unless they gave me a special dispensation.
