    RTÉ finds right formula in Lost:

    RTÉ has found what it's looking for with Lost.

    The final episode attracted an audience of 374,000 and a share of 30pc of people who were watching television at that time.

    According to RTÉ, it did particularly well with the men and women in 15-34 age groups, with the show attracting a share of 44pc of men and 39c of women in this age group.

    The broadcaster was particularly pleased as it was competing with Big Brother on Channel 4 and Love Island on TV3.

    "The show has attracted a hugely loyal audience and season two has proven even more popular than the first season, attracting an average of 50,000 more viewers per episode than the first season in 2005," said an RTÉ spokesperson.

    The average audience for season one was 300,000, which increased to 350,000 in season two. This represents an increase of 4pc in the share for the programme.

    Lost is a key acquisition for RTÉ Two and the station was the first European broadcaster to show both season one and season two.

    It will also be the first to premiere season three in January of next year - which will air in the US on October 4.
