Heading to Gothenberg next week Aug 2nd for 5 nights. Anyone know of good stuff to do, also reasonably cheap restaurants/bars, etc. Had a look on the web seemingly they have Europe's biggest funfair called Lisenberg. Seeing as I'll be there for 5 nights is there any good day/overnight trips worth doing?

    Cheers,
    Ciaran.

I did a 10-day whirlwind tour of denmark, norway and sweden and by far my most enjoyable few days were in Gothenburg. Absolutely loved the place & very easy to get around with the trams.

The main nightclubs and pubs are located along 'the avenue'. About halfway down there's a stand-out looking nightclub which should have a "25+ only" sign. This nightclub had some really friendly characters and the best looking women Ive ever seen in my life located under one roof *lol* seriously I texted a mate of mine "dude.. we're in the carlsberg nightclub!!!".

Also there's one Irish bar, there's no need to steer clear of it (I normally hate them) it's great and a great way to meet both locals and other people passing through.

I didnt go to Lisenberg as I'm fairly well terrified of heights :D We stayed in a very clean and nice hostel located beside the tram stop across from Lisenberg.

Sorry for the lack of exact names but it's been a few years.

PS I see you're there for 5 nights, if you're there on a wednesday night make sure you go out to a decent pub/club. The swedes (or at least the ones in gothenburg..) referred to wednesday night as "little saturday" and the place really comes alive. :)

The design museum (Röhsska Museum) is fascinating. The maritime history of Gothenburg is very impressive too so if shipping and the history of European trade turn you on, the City Museum and the Maritime museum are worth a look.

Oh yes, big chocolate balls :D (chokladbollar). The cafes in Gothenburg are damn fine.

Sweet enough I arrive on Wednesday night so I'll be out with my dancing shoes and more Irish charm than Darby O Gill himself! The Carlsberg nightclub...excellent! Thanks for the info.
