exactly what it says on the tin, what the hell is fire? is it just visible heat? then why is it that some metals could be extremly hot but there is no fire on it? is it a continious reaction, if so then what is reacting over and over again?

It's generally ionised gas. The electrons in atoms get kicked into high shells (high energy levels), some getting kicked free, and others recombining, emitting photons (particles of light).
