    Hi everyone

I have fraps and I use it to record videos. And it works fine, it records videos from games, but there's no sound in them. Now I know that Fraps has the ability to record sound, but in this case its not

I'm not 100% sure why this is, but I think its because it cant detect my sound card.

This is what the movies page of fraps should look like (taken from www.fraps.com)
    movies.gif

But this is what mine looks like
    myfraps.jpg

Dont mind the different frame rate settings, its just the two pictures are different versions, but instead notice that it isnt picking up any soundcard

I have a Realtek High Defintition sound card, driver version 5.10.0.5273 (which as far as I know are the latest drivers)

The computer is a Medion computer, and the sound card came with the computer when I bought it

I have done a bit of research on the internet to see if this is a known problem or not but couldnt find much on it, so obviously its not a common one

So if I cant fix Fraps to record sound, are there any freeware programs around that will capture the sound of a game while fraps is recording the video, and then I could put them together with Windows Movie Maker

    Thanks,
    Tim

A free open source program called audacity can capture any sound that comes out of the speakers

Fraps should. What happens when you use windows input?

Isn't there an option somewhere to manually select the sound settings?

No matter what options I choose, whether it be Windows Input or Detect Best Sound input, still no sound records. I dont think there is any place where you can manually set it up, you just get whats there

I'm downloading Audacity now so I'll let you know how I get on

I downloaded Audacity, it doesnt seem to be able to capture sound coming out of the speakers, it just seems to capture to be able to capture audio from a microphone (I didnt want to resort to that measure yet because of an extremem loss in quality)

Anyone else have any suggestions of programs that capture sound that comes from Flight Simulator, but not by means of a micrphone?

It appears fraps or Audacity aren't picking up your soundcard. Check that its installed properly (device manager) with the latest drivers. Might be an idea to uninstall and then re-install.

It appears in the Device Manager as Realtek High Definition Audio Card

yeah if both of them guys don't work its a hardware problem also make sure u have the recording volume turned up

that sound like a wrong driver or something is the sound card functioning alright in other proograms eg shut down/startup of windoews

Well I'm not 100% sure what you mean, I'm not an expert in computer hardware

But it does play sound and music fine, and it does record sound with a microphone fine

Does your board have onboard sound? it'd do that with onboard if hardware not working. Remove the card & see if you still have sound.
Did you get driver cd with pc. Better still google the soundcard and look for newer driver. Uninstall in device manager and restart. Re-install new driver after restart.

I tried removing the sound card from Device Manager and restarting Windows and then installing the latest drivers for it (and restarting again obviously) but still no change, fraps still doesnt record sound and the sound device label remains blank like in the picture above

Are there any other programs which will capture sound without using a microphone, just capture it straight from the sound card to the speakers if you know what I mean?

Are you sure its working? If your soundcard cant do it there's something wrong. Its a hardware prob, software is not the answer. Software just uses soundcard to capture sound. Are you running on onboard sound. This is what it sounds like. Take out the card & see if you still have sound? Test the card in another pc if possible.

fairly obvious it doenst detect your sound card, either reintall it or go to fraps website and see if its a common problem.

I have version 2.7.2 registerede version works fine for me.

    [edit] meh [/edit]

as the others have said, remove the drivers and get the latest ones from realtec. Also be sure to enable full audio acceleration in your sounds and multimedia control panel.
