Lemonade in pubs

Pubs used to have lemonade on tap (I think called splash taps). They still do in England, but I haven't seen them here in ages. Does anyone know when they went here? I imagine it's more profitable to sell little mixer bottles, but is there any other reason for their loss? Now that fewer people are going to pubs, do you think someone will bring them back to attract price-conscious punters?

Sorry, I know this is an alcohol forum, but thought it was still the most appropriate place.

i suspect the answer is contained in your post - as you say, the mixers are more profitable.

They are unpopular here because irish people on prefare mixer bottles as you would want to taste how crap a coke from a splash tap tastes as it is mettalic and way too sweet and flat compared to bottles.
    Quality comes first:)

coke on tap is f*ckin lovely.
    you must be mad ;)

most places here have "splash taps" or else 1.5 litre bottles of tk,
very few places sell little glass bottles as they push the price of a jsmeson adn red to 8eu + which is unacceptable to most people

Fair enough , 8 euro for one drink and a mixer is excessive.
i havent reaaly tried it in many places so i am a little ill-informed.
I might just be in the minority or else i havent tasted "proper"
    splash coke.

you get coke on tap from cinemas, mcdonalds and so on.
it comes in canisters in syrup form and the restaurant/bar adds water and carbonates it themselves.
    its "fresher" so to speak.

More money to be made selling bottles. Some places are even substituting Pepsi for Coke cause its cheaper. I ordered a jack and coke the other night and was given pepsi. was quite amazed when the person behind the bar didnt see the problem when i wouldnt accept it...

Down Under (Major Toms) up at the stephens green shopping centre still give you a free splash though

Most Dublin city centre bars serve the little bottles by default but most have a splash tap too. Many will give you 'splash' if you ask for it and some will even offer it. Generally have to pay (less than for the little bottles), unlike outside Dublin.

But really what annoys me is that beer is cheaper than Coke, even after all the duty/tax that gets added to alcoholic drinks. (note: I am in no way implying that beer is cheap)

There is a bigger profit margin in the 'Splash tap' coke than there is from a bottle/can, its just most people do like/prefer the coke from a bottle, when i'm mixing it with vodka i don't care how it tastes i'd prefer it cheap,

Macgowan(SP?) in churchtown will give splash of coke from a 2lt bottle, Ordered a pint of coke with some food one day and was only charged about 2 something, the coke was fresh so i didn't mind, beats paying over 5 euro for it.

Saying that i would prefer the stuff from a tap as it is always fresher.
