    Bus Éireann charged over Co Meath bus crash

    Bus Éireann was today charged with breaching the Health and Safety Act by not ensuring an anti-lock braking system was working on a bus that crashed near Navan last year resulting in the death of five schoolgirls.

    The firm faces four charges in all. Two of these relate to not having an anti-lock braking system operational at the time of the crash on May 23 rd.

    The company was also charged with not having instructed the driver in relation to the anti-lock braking system.

    A second company was also charged. Keltank Ltd, with an address in Balbriggan, Co Dublin was charged over the maintenance of the braking system.

    Meath County Council also faces a number of summonses under Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) legisaltion in relation to road works that were underway at the time.

    The case was adjourned until September 6 thto allow a Book of Evidence to be prepared.
