    Folks,

Want to arrange a lads weekend in the Dam in November.
Who, apart from Aer Lingus flys direct from Dub and also can anyone recommend any good sites for accomodation (cheap) either hotels or apartments pretty central.

    Thanks.

  • I'm deadly serious when i say this. Buy a tent for around €60, and stay at Camp Zeeburg. It was like being at Woodstock! Amazing place. 3 trams service it, but bikes are easily the best way to get around Amsterdam. They're €6 a day at Zeeburg.

4 nights for 4 people in one tent was €90 for us, in High Season

Aer Lingus are the only airline that fly directly to Amsterdam. Ryanair fly to Eindhoven, with a connecting bus to Amsterdam

Yeah, unfortunately Aer Lingus have a monopoly on Amsterdam. You'll be lucky if you can get flights for less that 150 euro return. It's not worth flying to the other airports unless you've got a lot of time as (last time I looked) they leave/arrive in the middle of the day. Some people fly Ryanair to Brussels, but itgoing to take you an extra 3 hours at least to get to Amsterdam & what you save on the flight, you'll pay on the train.

Camping might be an option as stated above, but trams stop around midnight. There are hostels in the city so they might be worth a try. Hotels are expensive - minimum 80 a head.

    Europe ain't cheap, but enjoy.

Hold on now. I was there 2 years ago and paid E20 a night. E80 is rediculous.

Maybe for a hostel, but it's a long time since you could get a hotel that cheap. Amsterdam is only slightly cheaper than Dublin.

    Headin over myself on thursday

We got aer lingus flights for 240 euro return to schipol

We are staying at the Garden hotel in the centre of the city, its a 5 star hotel, triple room works out at 154 a head for the three nights

So 50 euros a night in a 5 star hotel in amsterdam central... not minimum 80 euros a head as stated above

Sure if you stick 6 people into the room it'll only be 25 euro a night.

And the Garden Hotel sure as hell isn't a 5 star.

D'oh! Misread your post, my bad. I've no doubt a hotel would be E80 or more.

Stayed there is september. Was excellent. Was quite a religious hostel but at least you felt safe. Was clean, had lockers and was VERY well priced. 17 euro night from what i can remember. It's in the center of town as well. They also sell really cool t-shirts with 'Jesus loves you' on them. Breakfast is not that good. Basically bread and a piece of cheese. Definitely recommend it though.

we booked it through hostel world.

While your over there MAKE SURE you go to the heinichen brewery. 10 quid - fun tour and beer included and a gift. Tricky to find though I thought.

OK, I said 80 euro a head when I should have said 80 euro a room, but there's two garden hotels in Amsterdam - you said your was in the centre. The one in the centre is on PC Hoofstraat and can't be more than a 2 or 3 star. The one in your screen shot is nowhere near the centre, but the walk will do you good.

Anyway, back to the OP's request for cheap hotels near the centre and it all depends on what you call cheap. If there's a bunch of you maybe you can just get a whole dorm in a hostel to yourselves. Cheapest hotel I've found is called the Belga - nothing fancy, about 5 mins from Dam. For apartments there's a few agencies on the web, but you can also try these:

Make sure you have one of those nice smelly things for me ;)

Check out hostelworld.com they do all low budget accomidation from hostels like the flying pig and bulldog to house boats you can even stay with a ex madam:D

If your flexible with your dates you can get to amsterdam with aerlingus for less than €100 we payed €105.
I'm deadly serious when i say this. Buy a tent for around €60, and stay at Camp Zeeburg
I stayed there too! I had no choice I got to Amsterdam and had no accomidation arranged there was a big conference on and there was absolutly nothing available in the city other than a house boat for €400. It's a pain in the ass getting in and out there though and it pissed rain while I was setting up my tent. Fistfull of shrooms and you won't give a **** though.

I'm heading over on Tuesday, I've cabins booked in Camping Amsterdamse Bos (should be sturdier than a tent, not to mention more spacious). Ten euro a night per person isn't bad. Has anyone heard anything good/bad about the site?

We were going to go to Zeeburg, but this one's more convenient... Doh!

i just came on to make a thead asking the very same quesion as you and i am staying the same dates. And you will have no trouble booking with Aer Linugs for 150 or less in November if you do it now. I'm flying in Sept and i got it for 153. Thats from Cork and the amsterdam is the 2nd busiest route after LHR so its actually a fair price (i am biased working for aer lingus though).
Does anyone know of anywhere to catch some good live music or if anyone good is playing over there between sept14-17.

I don't know what of music you are in to, but there are several bars that have live rock, jazz and blues and there are also bigger concert type venues such as Melkweg and Paradiso, you can check out the September gigs on their websites
