Want to get a web cam for the pc, and was wondering are some makes/models better than others. The ones I have been looking at are the usual specs:640x480 for video/built in mike/30fps all for around €40-50. Some of the higher speced ones had 1024/768 for video/30fps/ and face tracking but were well up into €100-120 mark. Is there anything else I should be looking for and can anyone recommend one they are using. The other question is, the video conference software that comes with it is it up to the job or should I look for a better program on the net. IF I am using it to talk to a mate do we both need to be using the same softare or do all video conferencing programs work with each other

    Thanks Cubix

Well Logitech has pretty much cornered a good size of the market for webcams, I have used a few of their products the 5000 Pro series is a capable enough unit {€65 on Komplett} but I thought the picture quality from the Notebooks pro was very good.

Microsoft just launched some new webcams the LifeCam VX-6000 & 3000 series, the reviews seem to be fairly positive.

The best place I've seen to check out webcam reviews is at Everything USB so see if anything you intend to buy is reviewed there.

As for software if it's basic talking to one person then Skype or Windows Live Messenger work pretty well for that task & both are free.
