cant answer your q unfortunately but as far as i see the guards turn a blind eye to this. Cant blame them either with the farce that is the length of driving test waiting list

In a recent case in the district court in cork, the judge ruled that it was not a penal offence to drive unaccompanied, i.e. no sentance could be handed down, however he did state that the license would be invalid so effectively you can be charged for driving without a license which could get you a fine and a ban.

Yep and insurance invalid too, you'd get done for that one aswell.

in all honesty i wouldnt worry about it.if you get stopped and you are not a muppet in all likelyhood you will not be done. and you could always just say your going to pick up your full licenced driver.

As long as you are not driving like a muppet the Gardai won't pay you the slightest attention. Have been through numerious tax and insurance checks and nothing ever said.
That said if you are the undercar blue neon type then perhaps it might be different.

As long as you don't break any others law you will be ok.... only time they go after people for it is on the end of a long list of charges...

You'll probably be fine. Just drive sensibly and don't draw attention to yourself. That way the only time you're likely to be stopped is at a checkpoint where they'll just be checking tax/insurance most likely.

I know one guy who if asked for his licence will just tell them he forgot it and offer to bring it into the station. When he arrives at the station, he tells them he had his father in the car at the time. I'm not sure if that's such a good idea though as you're lying to the gardaí which I imagine is a more serious offence.

thats not the smartest idea as it can be added in that he said his dad was with him and if/when the garda who asked him to produce looks it up he would know that he either A) lied to him when he asked about the icence or B) Lied to the garda in the station, so he could end up getting a summons in the post where he might not have if he was just honest about it.
