New DSLR on the way, 10.2 megapixel. Probably a D70s replacement. Woohoo!

there are some "leaked" pics of it here. D80 apparently. I'm not 100% convinced this is the camera but sure, they could be authentic.

Does anyone know what kind of price it will be? Even a rough idea.

Really wish Canon could come along with something in the same market...I need an upgrade, and 2mp's ain't enough.

And a 5D is too pricy! (For the moment)

I would guess a street price of around €900-1000 for body and 1200-1300 for kit. Only a guess though.

This type of marketing will drive the lower MP cameras down in price ,very good way of doing things.Hopefully they'll hold on to the D50 and D70s

looks like a slight improvement on the canon upgrade with i thing is a waste of money... all depends on the ccd...how much its been spiced up

with any luck it wont have the apparent noise issues that the D200 has.

well the d50 has amazing noise control and is newer than the d200, so assume it'll be good

d50 was out for about 6 months before the d200. either way I agree, considering the stoning Nikon has been getting over the noise issue (personally I think it's blown out of proportion) I hope they've got it fixed now too.

i stand corrected( even double checked you claim ;) ) the new cam with its new res, will more than likely have a new ccd, it's gonna be nice, nikon needs a semi pro high res cam, this fills the gap nicely

so its a D70s replacement then. I see.

It's true that the D50 (and D200) has good noise control, but it seems Canon have the low light/low noise thing pretty much wrapped up. Especially with the 5D compared to the D200. But for 1300 more, they'd pretty much want to.

Most likely the same image quality or slightly better than the D200.

that makes me feel great about my recent €1600 spend on the D200

there's no winning in this game.

ah, well from what ken seems to mean by "image quality" in his reviews, i wouldn't worry about it too much.

Ultimately, the tiny differences in image quality are offset by the features and usability which help you end up with better results.

To be honest I wouldnt be surprised if the d80 did have better image characteristics than the d200.

    I would be surprised if - (pleasently......maybe)

the d80 had the same 2.5 inch lcd as the d200 (looks the same in the pics)
the d80 has 4.5 fps capabiltiy
the d80 has the same viewfinder as the d200 (it looks the same in the pics)

anyway, I'm sure we're all falling into the Nikon marketing teams trap of building this thing up.

If the pics are right the AF button will be most welcome, having to go to the menu in the D70s is a pain.
