I got a Vaio VGX-XL100 2 weeks ago and have only got to connecting it via HDMI yesterday.
My problem is the GFX card (Nvida Geforce 6600) does not give me the option of 1366x768 which is my screens native resolution.
My last pc worked fine at that resolution via the pc input.
To get the full screen displayed i have to go down to 1176x692.

The closest resolution available in the list is 1280x720, but that is larger then the screen.

    The tv is an LG37LZ55.

Is there any way of forcing 1366x768?
i would also think 1280x720 should be all displayed as it is lower then the screens native resolution?

Just had a quick Google and it appears that by using Powerstrip you can create a custom screen resolution to suit your TV.
I have not tried this myself....so maybe read the help files with Powerstrip.

    :)

just tried that and it doesnt give any extra options for screen resolution.

It has a nice shortcut icon that reminds me of the good old zx spectrum tho':p

    The icon is retro :)

If you install Powerstrip then right click the lovely icon and go to 'Display Profiles' then to 'Configure'. Then click the 'Advanced Timing Options'. On this page is a button for 'Custom Resolutions' you can set the new resolution at the top right and then click the 'Add New Resolution' button.

The new resolution will now appear in the normal display properties.

    Works for me anyway :D

What you need to do is to go into nView , thats the nVidia utility for managing screens , there is a button to launch a HDTV setup wizard. This Utility is part of your Driver and if its not installed then get the latest drivers and install em.

Launch nView, and select the HDTV setup button , ( p65 in the manual ) what it will do is give you a rectangle on your HDTV screen which you resize with arrows to fill the screen. You also select whether your using 720p or 1080i , You can then save the resulting resolution as a standard option in windows.

Heres a link to the nView manual , its on page 65

    http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/91.31/91.31_ForceWare_nView_User_Guide.pdf

Note that the resolution will not be 1366 x 768 , it will be more like 1250 x 720 or so , this is due to a number of things but mostly is down to the fact that some of the lines are used for overheads in your TV and also the pixel size will not exactly match. However the nView HDTV utility works like a charm and is a better native tool to use than powerstrip, which is really better for PAL and not HDTV.
