The LaPierre has a triple chainring at the front so it might be better for starting out - more gear choices.

You could ask the people at Cycle SuperStore what the differences are and which one they'd recommend (my guess: the LaPierre because they are the distributors).
Also go out and have a quick go of both. A few days ago someone mentioned a try-before-you-buy scheme at Cycle SuperStore where you buy the bike, try it out and return it a day later and get all but e20 back.

For similar money (e640), you could get the LaPierre Fd Jeux replica. It is very similar to the LaPierre Sport but has a carbon fork, which will absorb some road vibrations. It is based on the Francais de Jeux cycling team's bike (the real Fd Jeux bike is e1540 with carbon frame).
Get the Cycle SuperStore loyalty card and the Fd Jeux replica drops e38.

It is more expensive to change components after purchase than get them as part of the bike.

I think that was with cycleways and it's not worth doing. IF you so much as leave a tiny scratch on the bike you're forced to buy the thing outright. THe cycle superstore willl let you have a go outside but I don't think they'll let you take it home etc.
