Shared Epson printer wont work on Macbook

I have an Epson Stylus Photo R340 USB Printer connected to my WinXP desktop and its shared on the network. It installed fine on my Win2K laptop, and I can print to it with no problems. I tried installing it on my Macbook Pro (OS X 10.4.7) and it wont install properly, the mac can browse the network and it sees the printer, but when I go to install it, the printer name (driver) is not in the list. It has R300 Gimp-Print, but not R340. If I plug the printer into the mac, and go to set it up, it immediatly detects the printer on the USB port and selects the correct driver.

I read that Epson changed their drivers in such a way as to "obscure" the PDD files that you would select to manualy install a printer so as to prevent you installing the printer if its shared over a network, so as the only way it can be made to work is by connecting it to the computer with a USB cable, Bluetooth or an Epson Print Server. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Does anyone have a workaround to get my Mac to install the right driver when using the printer over a network share ?
