EURid has put 74K .eu domains on hold and has announced that it has taken legal action against 400 phantom or bogus registrars for breach of contract. The domains were related to Ovidio Limited, Fausto Limited and Gabino Limited. They consisted primarily of generic phrases and keywords and Ovidio was cyberwarehousing these domains with the intention to sell them later.

    More details:

It is not known yet if EURid will take action against the hundreds of other phantom registrars. The court cases will take place in October and EURid wishes to make the domains available to register, perhaps late this year.

In the stats comment where the Ovidio Ltd/Fausto Ltd and Tempus .eu counts and com/net/org/biz/info counts were listed?

Ah - I was getting confused there. :) Sometimes it is hard to keep all those millions of domains in my head.

Still though - that EURid decision is 4 Million Euros worth of trouble for these bogus registrars. That's if EURid revokes the contract and keeps the money. But there are hundreds more bogus registrars and squatters to be dealt with yet.
