FTA Program Resources...

First - many thanks to Zaphod and Watty. I posted a question to this forum a couple of weeks ago ('dual lnbs and diseqc switches'), looking for some advice as a complete newbie to FTA satellite... the advice was perfect, I installed my dish and I'm up, running and pretty pleased!

I've a 95cm dish picking up Astr, Astr2 and Htbird... lots of free programs. But I do have one other question... :D

I bought a Topfield 5500 PVR. It has an 'auto tuning' mode that fires away and tunes in lots (but not all!) of the available stations. I can manually get the receiver to tune in other stations - once I know the frequencies (i.e. where to look). Film four (sweeeet), and a couple of other stations fell into this category.

To find the frequences for the free stations I used a site called 'lyngsat.com' which has lists of free channels, their frequencies, etc... I'm wondering what other resources may be out there describing free channels that are available?

I use a website called KingofSat to find out the latest changes and updates and new channels.

I also use LJ's Live football to find out what games are on where.

Does the receiver have the option of Network Search? This should add frequencies automatically that are not already stored in the box.

If you do a bit of digging on the net or purchase a subscription to TSI, you'll find a program called "World of Satellites" which installs the entire Satcodx satellite listings on your PC. You can update this database regularly over the net with the activation code from TSI magazine, available as a free PDF:

    http://www.tele-satellite.com/magazine/TELE-satellite-0607-eng.pdf

The WOS program has a number of nice features including a search function (name, country, encryption type, language etc), dish size estimator, az/el angles calculator and export function. With some receivers which are 'Satcodx compatible' you can upload the channels direct to the receiver from the Satcodx database with a null modem cable.

Yes - it does have a Network search. And yes it was set off... :o OK... so thats what the manual meant by looking up network information tables from the transponder (like i said <clears throat> - a total newbie). In my defence, the manual is only sort-of in English, looks like the original in Korean just dropped into Bable-fish or something:p

I had googled earlier today before I posted and found so many sites I thought I would see if you guys ranked any. I appreciate the pointers. That world of satellites program looks great too.

    Thanks again,
    T.

Actually I found Altavistas Babel works better for simplified Chines than for Italian. Connector pins are rendered as "Acupuncture needles".
