A friend of mine is moving to Ireland from Iceland to do a postgrade in UCD this year.

She is coming over with her daughter and friend.

She asked me to look into a few places that might suit.

I told her to check out myhome.ie and daft.ie but so far nothing has come up.

Would any one recomemend a good area for approx €1000-€1200 permonth with 3 rooms and that is both easy to get to via public transport and or car UCD and close to a good primary school.

I think that's going to be really tough. The ideal thing is around Ranelagh or Donnybrook or Clonskeagh, but you're really looking at EUR 1800 a month there, more if you are student. I would have a look at balinteer, although I think it will still be 1500 or 1600. Maybe parts of Sandyford? You could also check along the 17 bus route, which goes through some less expensive areas. Also, the 11 bus runs to the northside and that might suit, though it will take a while to get to UCD from there at peak time. Also look along the dart line, although it's a bit of a hike up from the dart to UCD. There may be accommodation on-campus that would suit, though I don't think so.

Get her to talk to the international office in UCD and also whoever looks after students with family.

Is the postgrad in Belfield or one of the outlying campuses?

Yes the 17 bus goes through kimmage, rathfarnham, churchtown and dundrum to UCD, these areas would be a bit cheaper than the ones mentioned above.

She is doing a post grad in Celtic studies and folklore.

Who and how would she contact these people? Maybe I should post this in the UCD forum.

She is willing to use buses. I suggested Lucan (25x goes straight to UCD) and I do that journey myself most days but she wants something shorter if possible.

    Accommodation
UCD campus accommodation does not usually allow children and much so-called student accommodation is unsuitable for children. However the Union's accommodation and employment Officer keeps a record of suitable accommodation. Cherish (Association of single Parents) can sometimes help pregnant women out with accommodation.

Your friend could consider somewhere like Bray or Shankill (just pick your neighbourhood carefully) and get the 145 bus.

    What about afterschool arrangements?

She is looking into after school arrangements now but she doesnt expect to be in college all day but I suppose she cant finalise anything till she gets her time table.
