I am not happy with the way images of the lens diaphragm appear all over this shot. I used the kit lens. Is there anything I can do to salvage the photo? All suggestions welcome.

    I actually like it...

But I are you sure that ain't rain or dirt? Is that the only one it happened in?

Try the Fix my Pic group. Just make sure to ask for a workflow when you post it.

I don't think it was dirt and I haven't seen any rain for weeks! I think it is the kit lens being unsuitable for contre jour shots because of internal reflections. Do you know if the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM is better in this respect?

Well it's a much better lens in general, so I'd imagine so!

But I don't understand what is making the reflections.

Did it happen in any other shots like? Or just this one?

I had my photo fixed by slowburn on Flickr. What do you think?

This is probably the only shot where the sun fell on the front element of the lens and was the only photo to have this feature (in MS speak).

Sounds like a once off so...Like the kit lens isn't fantastic by any means, but it's a handy little number all the same.

The lens you suggested is very nice, and seems to have some good reviews, but do you have enough need to upgrade?

No I don't think I would spend the money on this lens if I had a choice.

Don't slate me for this, but I prefered you original! Lol! The edited version looks a tad out of focus. Mainly around The second face.

I do like textures he got on the sides though.

    This was his workflow

cropped, straightened and converted to a contrast rich b/w.
didn't lose the lens flare completely but removed it from the center with the burn tool. and stamped out the shadows on the right upper corner.
(a higher resolution of the original might have given a few more options)

Prefer the b+w one, the lens flare in the original does nothing for the photo in my opinion
