I'm joining the gym tomorrow, first time ever I'll have been in one, and just wondering if anyone has any advice on what I need to ask about, re. equipment, etc. to just work on my tummy so I can get it nice and concave :)

I do not want to lose weight anywhere else, actually I'm trying to gain weight all over.

Can a stomach actually BE concave? There's a hell of a lot of organs in there.

gainingweight and concave tummys probably don't mix.

although I did see this guy in bizarre magazine years ago - french dude - wore really tight corsets geadullay getting tighter and tighter - he waist was 22" and he was still trying to get it smaller...
maybe a contraption like that might help :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

It is very difficullt to do both even if you have great genetics.

Best bet is to eat healthy,Low Gi meals. Eat about 25 g of Protein every 3 hours with some good carbs. As long as the food you are eatting is good, dont worry too much about portion size. Next Buy some Glutamine to maintin muscle mass and maybe Creatine to add weight. Instead of running do power walking say 45 min,5 times a week. And if you lift ,ift heavy, doing Basic movements

    Any questions?

A girl in work told me that if I eat carbs about two hours before I work out in the gym it helps put on weight and evenly distribute it. After that, I just want to work out my stomach, I'm happy with all else anyway.

I am wondering what creatine is though, never heard of it before.

sorry jsb, didn't read the sticky before I posted for advice. I didn't realise it would be more helpful for ppl if I had incl. my stats, silly me, and I just thought there'd be general pointers that would suit most ppl, but then I am naiive when it comes to this stuff. And I didn't mean literally concave!

Anyway sorry for the vagueness and thanks for the help everybody.

ok basically you can't decide where you wan the excess weight to go by working out differnt body parts. Genetics is going to determine that. So for females alot of them will put weight on their hips and bums and men willl put it around their waist. This isn't because these are the least worked body parts it is just how it is.
So to cut down on the tummy you are going to have to do some cardio and probably make some changes to your diet. Also yes you should eat around 2 hours before the gym so you have plenty of energy in the gym but it won't effect where fat deposits will end up

edit: in relation to the gaining mass, eating well and lifting heavy is the key so make sure you have plenty of protein in your diet
