    The Sisters of Charity say part of the reason for them leaving Cappagh is the fall in the number of nuns.

    They have now transferred the future management of the hospital over to the Sisters of Mercy.

    How many 'nuns' are there in Ireland?

    ...says that the number of females involved in "religious occupations" in 2000 was 1104, a 40% decline from 1889 four years earlier. I'd imagine that it's safe to assume that the majority of these 1104 are nuns?

    hmm and I wonder how many of them or getting near or over retirement age...

    I know there still a trickle of priest being 'made' but I wonder how many nuns, I post on that convent which is moving to some sort of halfway system.

    ah o looked at the pdf still a fair few younger people 79 in the 25 -35 range

    2,858 in the male calssification I wonder how many of them are working overseas or are from overseas.

    over all it says 3 thousands in 2002 down from 6 thousand 96,
