I had a post about my grandparents dying and then their daughter (my auntie) bringing her daughter to the grandparents house and my auntie's daughter going up into my gramdparents room and saying "hi nana hi gaga" (GRANNY,GRANDAD) as she looked at the bed. It made me believe there is life after death as my aunties child never saw my grandparents alive or visited their grave...Nothing about the OuiJa board just my 2cents hope this helps,

Also recently another aunt of mine died and she was brought from the east coast back to the west here in Galway and all the faimly came together for the funeral and one of her ( the deceased ) sisters ( yet another aunt of mine Big Family :-) ) came up from Spain for it and told us she said a prayer and asked her sister ( the deceased ) to leave her a sign so she knew she had passed on and she found the sign on the grave, 2 shiny 2pence pieces of the days when the irish punt was in circulation, this was the sign as my aunt who died collected old money.

this thread just reminded me of when I was a teenager - myself and my friends used to play the ouija board all the time - so much so that we were literally addicted to it - one of my friends gained so much power from it that she could do it on her own - and believe me I know she wasnt faking. Anyway, we stopped playing when another friend of mine told her sister about what we were doing her sister warned her not to mess around with it and told her several stories including one about a friend of hers who had been playing the ouija board with a friend and the friend looked up to see the girl had an evil demonic looking face on her. Anyway, we were told to burn the board so when I returned home to get mine I went to the place where I always kept it - above my wardrobe, and it wasnt there - to this day I have never seen it again and my parents did not touch it - wonder what happened to it? By the way - my room in my parents house is like a shoebox - and has been done up since this happened nearly ten years ago, still find it very strange.

When you say she got "power" from it, what do you mean, in what way did the power manifest?

This again, may I suggest to the mods that a thread be made with links to ALL the threads on it and it be stickied.

I suggested that, with Sapiens post at the start of the stickie.

6th - about my friend, now remember this was a long time ago, it happened after a long while that we were doing it, she played so often that I really don't know how, but she was able to move the coin (we used a coin not a glass) on her own. I remember when it first happened the spirit (or not) asked for us to leave her play on her own, we removed our fingers from the coin slowly and it went flying under the tips of her fingers across the board, she then placed the tips of her fingers again and learned to control it - the coin was slower with just her, but it did work, sometimes quickly jumping out of her control - which happened many times that I was doing it too. I think she was maybe able to be more controled by the spirit (or not) and maybe that was why she could do it on her own.

ok so if it was something paranormal, it was somethinga cting through her as opposed to her gaining any power herself as in moving the coin without touching it?

yes, if the ouija board is what people say it is, she could have had a sort of temporary possession

That's a good idea, there's a couple of other topics that come up so often they deserve the same treatment aswell, Most Haunted/Derek Acorah, Sleep Paralysis, Deja Vu, IPL, . I'm trying to decide between one sticky just for Ouija Boards, a sticky with links for all the common repeat topics, or maybe a biki page with the same (and linked from a sticky).

    edit: suggestions welcome of course

I don't know how much credit you want to apply to this, but at the time it made the hair stand on the back of my neck. As you will see it did not happen directly to me so it maybe complete muck/rumours/scare mongering or stories...

I went to a Catholic secondary boarding school that was run by priests at the time and we had to go on a "retreat" every year. So one year (approx 13 years ago now) they brought in an old priest (in his late 60's) who had spent most of his life on the missions in Africa and a few years working in a parish in Dublin city. So we spent the day talking about life, death etc and the topic of Ouija boards came up. So this old priest sat down and started telling us stories about personal experiences he had during his time in the church. It turned out that he worked as an exorcist both in Africa and in Dublin. (He had retired from all of this by then and spent his days doing retreats etc). After a brief explanation of Ouija boards where the came from, the name Oui (French) and Ja (German) etc he started telling us of things he experienced. There were two stories that stuck in my mind, the first occurred to him in Africa.

It concerned a young woman who lived in a mud hut in the bush. She had gotten involved in some sort of ritual involving a type of Ouija board trying to contact dead relatives of hers. Now whatever she contacted or raised (I have no idea how it works) possessed her. So when this became apparent to her family they contacted the local missionaries/church as her behaviour was becoming very erratic. She would sit in her hut and speak in a different voice in a strange language to them (it turned out to be latin), her face was contorted and deformed and she had incredible strength. So the priest and some others began an exorcism. The exact details of what went on escape me (long time since I heard it) but in the end they succeeded. But what stuck in my mind about this one was that once exorcised the spirit exited through the side of the hut leaving a 3 foot hole in its side and there was a wheat or corn field outside which it left the same 3 foot path of flattened corn for 1/2 miles in a straight line away from the hut. He explained that the reason for the missions in Africa was because Satan targeted Africa because the people there were/are poorly educated and easily possessed. Hence the atrocities, wars, pillage that currently blight the majority of that continent.

The second story concerned something that happened in Dublin in the 60's or earlier according to this priest. Again it involved an Ouija board that someone was using in a house. But the persons using the board were not affected it was an 11 year old sister of one of them that lived in this house who became possessed. She brought a friend of hers up to the attic in her house one day and nailed her hands to a rafter so that she hung in the shape of Christ on the cross. Now you can believe this or not but at the time sitting looking at the old priest retell these stories it had a profound effect on us. Listening to him tell us about how this beautiful blond little girl spoke and swore at them in a horrible deep demonic male voice shook us I can tell you. The events were hushed up at the time as things like that did not happen in Catholic Ireland and the powers that be would not allow the story to become public.

I had no reason then or now to not believe this man. Why would he have lied? It seemed a bit extreme just to scare us and I doubt he would have lied like that. He was coming to the end of his life as he said and all he wished was to impart some of the knowledge and experiences of that life to others. He was empathic though about one thing and that was that we should never use or get involved in any way with Ouija boards. If they were even being used in the same building as us we should leave the building immediately. But should we for whatever reason use one and we wished to know the name of the entity we had contacted we could command them in the name of "Jesus Christ" to tell us there correct name. They will take the name of loved ones or other less offensive names and try to possess you or others.

You can take the above with a pinch of salt or just laugh out loud at it, but it made me think about the whole Ouija board thing.

I think each one deserves it's own stickie that way those who want can read back and then add to it.
