I have an old Dell computer (XPS D333) and it has a 200W power supply in it (not enough to power the new graphics card I got, silly me:mad:) that I want to upgrade, so a standard ATX 12V PSU is the correct one I need yes? Thanks in advance.

I just want to warn yo that i blew my stabndard ATX psu when it was trying to power a dell, I dont know why it blew but it could very well be due to the afct that the pc was a dell. I have heard in many places that only dell psu's work with dells, but i thought that was due to the fact they dont use atx power connecters, i think i was wrong.

I doubt thats the case, unless it is with certain models, I've replaced lots of dell psu's with fortron source and northq psu's and they've all worked fine

Super, I have heard of fortron. I'll have a look for something a bit better later on. Thanks the replies.

Are they specially marketed as working with dells?? I also think that that PSU was on the way out anyway, so it may have had nothing to do with the dell.I dont know.

No they are not marked as working with dells, I can't speak for every dell model ever made but I've worked with quiet a few and they've all used standard atx psu's

edit:// although, just found this :(

I guess I'll just pick one up and hope it works out, I don't think it'll be a problem myself.

Alot of DELL machines use non standard though, its pretty much hit and miss so be careful..

Also, Ruu, I'm not following your post at all. The D333 is a really old computer - as in Pentium 2 era - there's no possible way you could put a graphics card in there that even needs power directly from the psu, let alone need more then 200W!! A Pentium 2 or an early P III could not make use of more then a 32mb geforce card or thereabouts......why an earth would you want to put a card in there like you seem to be describing?

Or am I reading something wrong here...

Yes I know what type of computer I own. :) I bought a geforce fx 5500 PCI 128mb(it needs a 250w PSU) it works fine but the usb 2.0 pci adapter along with the other onboard usb hubs refuse to work (anything plugged into them fails to register). When the old 8mb agp card goes back in then everything on the system is working again.

Ruu, a fx5500 is completely 100% wasted on a D333, its way too powerful. Even if it worked, it won't perform any better then a $10 old card like a 16mb TNT2 or a Radeon 7000 given your cpu...you'd really need a computer of around 1ghz to make proper use of an fx5500 :o

edit: I have a 32 or 64mb Geforce 2 MX agp Here, it would be more then enough for a D333, and it doesn't require any juice from the psu, you can have it if you don't get the fx5500 working, it'd save you an awful lot of bother plus it'd perform exactly the same as the fx5500 would given the cpu...it runs games like Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Enemy Territory, etc on high settings fine so it'd even be of use in a better computer too :)
