I recently spotted this mint Mk1 Fiesta at a show near Enfield, Co Meath.

It brought back some memories of a time when there were lots of these on Irish roads.

    Enjoy!

Had one for a few months when I was 'between cars' a pale buff colour - very late 70s/early80s. The exhaust fell off but what the hell it cost about 250 olde punts and I sold it on when I got a slightly better heap (Isuzu Aska TD). The best feature of the Fiesta was the bodged screen washer which was activated by pushing on a ball with your left foot, worked everytime. :)

Never particularly liked these TBH. But it was a very important car for Ford and a very common sight on Irish roads. They seemed to last relativley well too (in terms of rust resistance etc.) There is a grey one in normal use in Cavan - one of the "big bumper" models.

Ahhhh. The old Fiesta, my very first car, bought it with 104,000 miles on the clock, drove it for three years then upgraded. Meant to restore it and still have it, but unfortunately too much tinworm at this stage. A long time ago...... some good memories though!!!

My first car also, well the first one I had insurance in, paid too much money for it, it smoked like hell but I passed my test in it. It was silver with a slight tinge of rust everywhere, ahh the memories.

there was an old biy selling a sky blue one at Trim a few years ago, 1275 may remember, looked tidy - no rust, 2 owners, 40K on the clock, neat interior, 3 he said he wanted, I was tempted to take it as a runabout until I realised it was 3K he wanted

he didnt seem to believe me when I pointed out the overspray on the bumpers and wads of fibreglass and filler holding the front bumper together!!!!!

Yeah the Mk1's are few and far between nowdays !

It was the first car I drove legally. My mother had a 1981 "Festival" model with the black wheels and alloy embellishers, ,ooked well, it was Aztec Bronze metallic bought brand new for £3,825.00 punts !

Served us well too, though when I started driving it in 1987 I took it to Dollymount strand and did a few too many handbrake turns and nose throws and it lost oil pressure ! The gallop home at about 85MPH didn't do it any good and the engine knocked its big ends off !

My folks went on holidays to Donegal, schools were off so I took the Motor out and stripped it, got the crank done, new bearings and rings and that was it, went like a bomb for anothe few years. My cousin then bought it, and then a friend on my mothers after that. They had it years and I did the engine again on it sometime in the 90's !

Most of my friends had Mk1's at the same time so we did a lot of work on them. Crossmembers were a pain as they used to elongate the holes if you drove them hard !

Never had to do any suspension work on any of them, except for the rear stabiliser bar which used to bend !

Again ours had no trace of rust when I last saw it ..........353 FZL !!
