My girlfriend is using Depo Provera, the injectible contraceptive. Out of interest, is there any medication that could reduce the effectiveness of Depo? Antibiotics etc.

    Thanks :)

Not antibiotics, but aminoglutethimide a drug used to treat Cushing's disease will lessen the potency of Depo. Your doc will be aware of this. She should run any herbal or over the counter treatments past her doc too.

Quite a bit of info about Depo here:

Thanks for that, spurious. She only recently received her first injection, however, her doctor didn't give her much information regarding it. Was going to go to my own doctor to ask about it, glad to be able to save the €€€'s now. :)

If someone wants medical advice regarding medicines and something as important as contraception they should go to their doctor not to an internet message board. No disrespect to the replier above but anyone could come onto this thread and give poor, dangerous or malicious advice that could land your girlfriend in medical trouble and boards.ie in legal trouble...

Obviously anyone should consult their doctor about this. I never said otherwise. In fact I mentioned the doctor twice.

    Apologies, she. :)

Thanks again for providing me with a link to a credible site with general information regarding the use of Depo Provera. ;)
