Finding Accommodation

Sorry for all the questions but I'm getting a bit nervous.
I found out I didn't get a campus room and will have to rent private accommodation. I will be going into 4th year but spent 2 years in halls and last year on Erasmus so I've never looked for places in Dublin before and quite frankly all the horror stories I keep hearing are scaring me. Where do I even start? When do I need to start looking? Is it better to do it now or wait until September? I live in the North so I can't be going looking at flats all summer but I'll be able to go down for a day or two here and there. I've looked at Daft but most places won't rent to students. What is the Accommodation office like? Where are the cheapest (but safe) areas to live?

I obtained my room in Trinity Hall a few years ago even though I was rejected for a room first time around. Basically I called the office every few hours for about a week and a half and they gave in. Try it.

EDIT: I probably shouldn't mention this, feel free to delete, but I also had 'a contact', though I'm not sure how much this influenced their decision in the end.
