Where to buy exhaust pipe insulation

Anyone got any idea where to get (and how much) wraparound exhaust insulation? The heat off my exhausts leaks through to the floor and after a few mins the cabin is rather hot, and the shifter after about an hour gets too hot to touch at the base

You might need to think about this one. The heat isn't just from the exhaust but from the block and transmission as well. You'll reduce the heat ingress a bit by insulating the exhaust but the bulk of it may still be coming from the block.

Agriemach in the UK do both a wrap and a ceramic paint (Lizardskin). If you've got a mild steel manifold you might need to be a bit more research. I've read of problems where insulated mild steel manifolds become brittle and shatter because heat dispersal is reduced by the insulation. Its not a problem with stainless steel.

Demon Tweeks probably do something similar.

Anyway, because the heat comes from more than just the exhaust, it might be worth considering a foil backed insulation product that you can use on the bulkhead and floor of the car. These have the added advantage of reducing noise as well as heat from all external sources.

Maybe a Mustang forum would be able to give you more specialised advice specifically for the Mustang...

    Hope this helps...
