Spice burgers

My brother offered me a bite of his spice burger recently claiming it doesn't have any meat in it. The topic came up just now in work so I said I'd find out for sure from my veggie friends, or at least the 40% of people on this forum who are actually veggie :D

So... What's the deal with spice burgers, surely they have some kind of meat in them?? Or am I going to be pleasently surprised (I used to like them before going veggie)??

I wondered this recently too, but I think it's the oil you'd have to be worried about. That said I'm not sure about the spice burger itself . Maybe look at the label in tescos? (even though I'm not in tescos much myself)

I've never had them/heard of them, look at the pack for all your needs.

Spice burgers are meat w/ spiced coating. Your brother was acting the bollix. Anyone ever tasted one? What are they like?

From the odd drunken occasion that I have eaten one...I recall it was very 'pork'-ey tasting. It was kind of horrible.

I bet you could make one! How about boiled & cubed potato, mixed w/ egg, peas, teeny broccoli & cauliflower florets, and mixed with some dry fried turmeric, mustard seeds, cumin, corriander. You could form them into burgers, dip them in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs you had toasted w/ spices, then fry and have with mango chutney. Kind of like a pakora only with spicy crumb instead of pastry on the outside.

Why do I read about food when I'm hungry. Brb with a poor excuse for a ball of spice. (:

Natureboy is from waterford me thinks :D spice burgers rock, but unfortunately they have meat in them, try the wexico alternative - rissoles they are lovely and with no meat either.

I know someone who was running a B&B and unknowingly gave Spice burgers to some vegetarian guests. Why do people think that once you add spices to a burger it would cancel out the meat??? Do they think cheese with herbs in it is dairy-free?

I knew a vegetarian who used to eat them all the time, he would get them in chippers so had no pack. They have about 50% meat I think, they could very easily be thought to be meat free, it looks like a veggy burger inside.

According to Walsh's website they have beef in theirs, these are the ones I have seen most often in chippers or in the supermarket.

In a chipper recently I asked what they had that was vegetarian (apart from chips obviously) and the guy behind the counter told me "Oh well there's the spice burgers".
Luckily I listened to my other half and didn't get the spice burger.....shame though, I did used to like them.

In 99% of chippers the oil will have been used to fry meat in so even if they have veggie burgers they will be full of animal fats. It is a myth that many use lard to cook in. A lot use hydrogentated fat so when people see big blocks they presume it is lard. Maybe 50-100 years back dripping was popular.

I have never seen anything called a spice burger other than the walshes ones. They also do curry spice burgers, wider and thinner like a real burger.

Moonbeam- where did you see veggie ones?

Seems like lads in chipper, like most barmen, havent got a clue what they are selling.

    That's probably very true.

I wonder is there any such thing as a vegetarian chippers...

I saw a veggie take away place in Belfast before but it was health food
