im buying my first digital camera, having wanted one for ages , iv got about 300 euro to spend , any sugestions, any brands i should stay away from ect ?

If it's still available at your local newsagents, pick up a copy of August's PC Pro. There's a section on best digital camera for £200 (€300) or less. Looking at the article, the top three that they picked are:

1. Canon Ixus 60, 5.9MP, 170g, €285
2. Sony CyberShot W50, 6.0MP, 156g, €243
3. Casio Exilim EX-S600, 5.9MP, 132g, €265

I got the prices above from the Pixmania, selecting their Irish 'store'. Postage I think is €13.

Personally, I've used a Canon PowerShot S45 for the past few years and I'm quite happy with the Canon brand. FujiFilm are also a good brand to look at.
