NTL and VPN

    Hello,

I am thinking of getting ntl broadband. However their terms of service say that they don't allow VPN. Does anyone know if this is blocked or if it is just against their terms and not enforced?

    Thanks,

When I had NTL I used to connect to my office VPN without any issues. But that was over a year ago now, I moved house to an area that wasn't covered by NTL.

But I don't think they are in the habit of blocking ports (FTP, TELNET, bittorrent, vpn's etc...)

When they say VPN is disallowed, they mean incoming. Outgoing VPN is fine. They disallow the running of any service on their network (HTTP, VPN, Telnet, FTP, etc), but they don't block ports. Afaik though they are in the habit of throttling your connection if they think you're running a service.

I'm running VPN on NTL to work right now, works perfectly, being doing this almost everyday for the last two years without any problems.

seamus I've run a variety of servers on my machines over NTL and I've never had any problems or been throttled. Maybe is you were trying to run a very busy public service over it they will, but no problems with light personal use.
