More than likely will be doing a reinstall over the next few days and i don't want to go through all the hassle of redownloading SF and euroforces. Is there anyway to back these up.

Yeah. Just burn the EA Downloader folder in Program Files.

Can't you just copy your battlefield 2 folder and burn it?

Nope. You can't reinstall the booster packs with just the Battlefield2 folder. You need the .exe files to do that.

Would be handy if you followed this up with a post on how you got on after the format . Just a run down of the install order .Like , do you reinstall the EA downloader and then copy the backed up folder over it ?

Theres another way which i use.

Copy the entire EA Games folder to DVD to external HD.

Go to Regedit and naviage to these 2 keys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DICE

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts

Right click on them and hit Export, they usually drop in My Documents so take the 2 reg entries and stick them on your HD or DVD.

Reinstall windows, copy back the entire EA Games folder, run the 2 reg entires, play game.

You will need to manually add a shortcut to the game in your START list or on your desktop.

Remember to copy your battlefield 2 profile folder in my documents. This will save you rebinding your keys, graphics etc.

Cheers KdjaC and Brendymu. I might even give the 1.4 beta patch a go now. I thought it would be to much hassle to reinstall everything.

Installed BF2, then EA downloader. then copied the contents of my user account in the old backed up EA downloader to the my user account folder on the new EA downloader. opened up EA downloader and both special forces and euroforces showed as ready to install. clicking on the setup exe's won't work, you'll have to register your BF2 and then install the packs via EA downloader. no problems with loading the game, now i got to figure out why it keeps stopping during play and pray that it is'nt my new card.

DingDong, you don't have to reinstall everything to go from 1.4 back to 1.3

EA explain in the readme how to have both at the same time.

AnCapaillMor, can you explain exactly what error message you're getting?
You don't have to register BF2 if you don't want to.

Using the setup exe's without the EAD usually works fine.

Got a keycode error when using the setups directly. i know another person who got the same with clicking the exe's. did'nt have to register but did it anyway.

as for the game stopping, i'm pretty sure its down to sound as it locks up on VLC player on a sound and drives and on a sound in BF2.
