Work permit for an Aussie citizen??

I'm not sure if this is in the right category but it seemed the most applicable.

Myself (Irish) and my fiancee (Australian) came back from Australia in May this year to live. She doesn't have any of the skills required for a work visa so she's been here initially on a 3 month holiday visa and now that has been extended as we're engaged and have registered with the registry office to get married.

But I'd like her (and she'd like) to be able to work. I've read (and been told by immigration, in their vague way) that an employer can get a work permit for a foreign national if they have advertised their job and couldn't get it filled by an Irish person. My questions are, is it a lot of hassle for an employer to get a work permit (can any employer do it)? and how do we find jobs that fit this category. Obviously we don't want her to keep on applying for jobs that she can't get.

A work permit would be preferable also because it would mean we could arrange a proper wedding rather than rush one for a visa.

Has anybody else been in this kind of situation?

This is definately not the right place. You're looking for the general legal discussion forum, or the work/jobs forum.

Yep, I see that now. Another thread said to post these kind of requests in legal. Hmmm. I didn't know there was a few. Next question so. How do I move the thread or get a mod to move it. It doesn't seem obvious.

You can't move it yourself, you have to wait for a mod to do it. This is just a sub-forum of the Legal Discussion forum, and it has nothing to do with actually legal issues.

You can find Legal Discussion here.

I'll move it to the Work forum
