Up until about a year ago I had quite a toned stomach....but now I have a belly and I need to know how to get rid of it...what excercises etc.....My diet is Special K in the morning, a good healthy balanced meal during the day and another bowl of Special K around 7-8pm, that's all I eat every day. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

have seen some bad diets posted up before but this one really takes the biscuit.

    Its shocking. My god.

I have more for my breakfeast then you do in a whole day. You wont lose weight by eating less. Eat 5-6 healthy meals a day and excercise. Jogging, bike etc etc. Also do some weights.

Read the stickies posted in the forum. Best place to start. Also, eat porridge or something. I could be completely wrong but i would say special K is a load of bollox.

god f****** damn you kellogs for making people take your 2 week challenge and then think that it is a healthy life style.

Basically you are starving yourself and so your body is going to try and keep as much fat as it possible. Read the stickies as there is a lot of diet information there and then come back if you have any further question after that, but you should be looking to have 5-6 small meals a day

I honestly didn't realise I was doing the wrong thing....5-6 small meals a day is a better way to go so? I'm a complete yo-yo dieter, have been for years and it's gotten me nowhere. This has been my diet for the last 6 months and I haven't seen any positive changes. My metabolism is probably completely messed up because of this. Thanks for the advice, I'll try the 5-6 small meals a day, thanks.

Dont go eating 5-6 meals a day of macdonalds though. Make sure there healthy and make sure its not crap like special K. theres a simple rule i follow for healthy food. If its advertised on tv as being healthy and good for you, chances are its not.

I don't eat Macdonals etc anyway, I like healthy foods, I eat a lot of vegetables. I'm just afraid that if I eat more (even if it is healthy food) that I will gain weight.

initally you may but that you probably be due to the fact that your body isn't use to being fed properly.

However your best bet is to read up on nutrition that you you can make informed choices about the food you eat as oppose to just going along with the next fad diet that is advertised in a glossy magazine as the ultimate diet

Yeah, as another poster said, it's unbelievable that Kelloggs actually promote the "Special K Jeans Diet". And they get away with it! They should be hauled up!! OP, those who put weight on the stomach are the ones who particularly need to eat often. I'm one of them. You need to keep your food intake regular, otherwise, as the others have said, your body will go into famine mode and store the fat. There should be a maximum of three hours between eating. Avoid complex carbs and keep the portions relatively small - as in, don't stuff yourself.

Also, if what I say now is inappropriate for this forum, I apologise, but I really have to say I'm a little concerned that you have been following the Special K diet for six months. And you also say you've been a yo-yo dieter for a few years. Do you have any emotional issues with food that might need addressing?

I don't think so....I just don't like my body. And despite never really eating much junk food and excercising I have always never been able to get a desired weight. I don't want to be a stick insect, all I want to do is get rid of some excess weight and it just won't happen for me. I'm trying this 5 small meals a day thing like I was advised to on here so we will see how that goes.

I still don't know the exact meals I should be eating...and I'm a vegetarian...if anyone has a few minutes to spare maybe they could post up a couple of days diet that would suit me? I just don't know if I'm eating the right types of foods together etc despite the research I've done, it would still be a great help if someone could post up a diet that I should follow because I'm worried that I'm not doing it right.

The most basic rule I can give is

Natural food GOOOD :D, processed food bad :(

So, for now, just use our own judgement, and dont forget ur mate Google! :)

Fish: A fish is a water-dwelling vertebrate with gills. Most are cold-blooded. There are over 29,000 species of fish, making them the most diverse group of vertebrates.

    Jones: aka 'Summerjones' the OP

Chucky the Tree: "So, Ms. Jones, do you like to eat fish?"

    ;)

if you're having problems with stomach area, can highly recommend running. its just fantastic. However its not just the calorie burning part
    1. you feel great during/after run
    2. you tend to eat in a far healthier manner
    3. you tend to drink more water
    4. you just feel so much better about yourself.

I started off doing the mini-marathon training and would almost scrap myself off the pavement after 5 mins of running. start on the beginners program and see what happens. find a race to enter and have that focus. I'm now getting ready for the dublin marathon and am just adoring it. While I've always been pretty thin I'm now sliding into a size 6 in zara. When I've lost weight before I've looked horrendous as it all came off my face and my arms looked like twigs but now I feel that I look better than I ever have in my life.

I know that this isn't quite the "how to lose weight on your stomach" answer you originally looked for but elements of your replies reminded me of how I used to feel.

Theres a half marathon in donegal at the end of september called the mooathon. You can run or walk it. why not try to start training for that? Imagine how incredible it would feel to know that you've run/walked 13 miles! theres training for half marathons running or walking on halhigdons web site.

With regard to food I have fruit, yoguort and a yogourt drink for breakfast, sometimes with honey and sometimes with a bit of museli or cereal sprinkled over it. Lunch is salad based with some protein and dinner is the same with loads of vegetables and more protein. I try to follow two guide lines-eat 70% of your food raw, try and ensure that everything that you eat is in as natural a state as possible. The less plastic you've to unwrap when you're preparing a meal the better!

Always bring a packed lunch and remember to treat yourself. At weekends I have more or less what i want, if I get a craving for a twix or a mars bar I'll eat half and bin the rest. but if you really want say, chocolate cake then get the best chocolate cake that you can and enjoy it.

Cut out bread if possible, I find it bloats my stomach and sticks in my guts.

Remember diets don't work, only life style changes work. I agree with the special k comments earlier and I think that the diet industry just plays on peoples insecurities in order to make money. Anyway, its not in their interests to have people lose weight long term, they'd put themselves out of business.
