Does anyone know if you can connect an external usb hard drive to an xbox ?

You can connect a drive directly, but it will only then let you play any mp3's from it and you won't be able to use it to back up any of your saves if thats what you want to do. So I've just left my drive connected to the laptop and stream the tunes across to the xbox from there for playing in game.

cheers for that , I would like to play some divx movies through the xbox. I cant see a usb connection so I think I will just put the drive directly into the xbox and play the divx movies through XBMC

360 - Yes, must be formatted to fat32 though

Xbox1 - No, unfortunetly

The controller connections on the Xbox 1 are in fact re-shaped usb connections. If you take the plug that goes in from a controller, and cut the wire, you should be able to wire it up with any usb cable, matching the colours. The xbox wire has an extra wire IIRC, whcih can be ignored. The finished rig should look like this

lol, you can do it with xbox, and you can also replace the stock hdd with any sized IDE hard drive.... 400GB anyone?
