    try this

Close all browser windows except one.

Open a new window from a link on the remaining window.

    Close the old window

Adjust the window to be the size you want

Hold down the Ctrl key while closing the window.

    et voila

let us know how u get on

    What browser are you using?

    Assuming you mean web broswer:
With only one instance of your browser open: maximize. Then, close (File->Close)

You could always use the new tabs feature with Firefox or IE 7 also.
