Working Abroad, I am moving to Uk in about 2 weeks, I am moving the day after I finish work so wont have my p45, Can I still get employment over in the Uk without my P45 or how does it work over there?

    I don't think you need your P45.

You'll need to get a National Insurance number by ringing up the relevant authority and organising an interview for your applicaition for a NI number. It lasts 30-45mins and you'll need passport + proof of address or bank account.

The NI number should arrive after 6-8 weeks. If you're working in the meantime your employer will use a temp NI number for you, i.e. emergency tax.

Your Irish P45 won't mean a thing over there - you'll be getting a UK National Insurance number (a process that can take a *long* time). As SofaKing said, you'll be assigned an initial, temporary number.

As a couple of the lads said, UK and Irish P45's are not interchangable. Different countries and all that, I assume they are called the same thing as a kick back to hundreds of years ago, and weve never bother to change the name.

When you start work they will give you a temp National Insurance number [it will be along the lines of TN123456].

If you want a real one you have to go to your job center and do a stupid interview where you get asked 400 stupid questions about your school and favourite colour and **** :D You get your number like 3 months later. That said you really dont need a real number unless you plan to hang around the UK for a couple of years..

They are well used to Irish people, and indeed people of all natioalities working over there, so its a dead smooth, easy process.
