Bypass web filter?

    Ok, story is I have a friend that has her web usage monitored in work. There are some sites that are blacklisted (like boards) and also if someone spends too much time on a non work related website then they'll be reported to their boss by some snitch that monitors web traffic.

    Obviously using one of boards' alternative addresses will get around the blacklisting, but only till the tech guy spots it. So what I'm wondering is there a way to make it look like she's actually visiting a different site? Specifically, what I thought about doing is to map boards' IP to a domain of a work related site in the windows hosts file. This way when she types www.somevalidurl.com into her browser she'll be sent to boards instead, but what I don't know is what the network monitor will see when she does this. Will he see
      [a]www.somevalidurl.com
    boards IP
    [c]or www.boards.ie???

    Obviously outcome a) is what I'm after.

    Snitch will be monitering IPs most likely.

    Depends on how the traffic is monitored tbh. :)

    Yeah, I guess it's near impossible to find a solution without knowing anything about how it's monitored. Just thought I'd ask anyway :)

    Tell me about it. Im working for the revenue this summer. Ive already had my
    boss telling me to cut down on the internet use :-(

    To access boards, just google it and hit the cache button or something like that.
    WOrks for me. Now I just have a bookmark which leads to the computer section.
    The filter just doesnt like www.boards.ie

    Here is a crazy mad idea!! Why dont you talk to the person on your IT team and ask him to let the site though, or put it on the approved site list.

    If I got someone trying to purposly bypass filters \ sensors that I had setup I would nail them to the wall for it.

    you can use ::

    Requires a server (your home PC) that you can connect to.

    http://www.htthost.com/

    IMPORTANT READ :: http://www.htthost.com/faq.boa?question=hide

    Be warned though, if an admin finds that on your machine you could quite possibly lose your job. I would suggest a think about it before taking the plunge.
