Rebranding

    Hey guys,

I'm thinking of rebranding my classes for 9+ (into early teens).

Clever Little Monkeys is a good brand for younger children as it's a fun name, and gives off warm connotations. However, for the older kids, who I essentially train as my own army of athletes, it's a little juvenile to them.

Since at that age, they're starting to ask their parents for more and more - in particular with respect to how they spend their free time - and they face peer pressure, I'd like a name/brand that appeals to them but also makes parents feel safe about their children learning zhoo zhitsu wizardry and tasty clinch.

    Any thoughts, suggestions welcome.

    Colm

I was thinking of something similar Colm. Something in keeping with the K.O. Martial Arts Church of Whoop Ass style.:D

I'd be interested in seeing what people come up with.

    1. The dojo of truth
    2. Silverback MMA
    3. Proud Pelicans

hmm, trying to keep the simian theme of SBG and CLM I'm struggling to come up with something other than Silverback MMA. So that's my final answer.

    Use the formula:

    (Colour)+(Jungle/Mythic Animal)+(Art)=Club name

    Example: (Black)+(Tiger)+(Karate)= Black Tiger Karate

Our dojang has Tiny Tigers up to age 6. After that, we do not have a name that distinguishes them from the adult classes. WTF makes a major distinction at age 14 in terms of contact rules (and calling them juniors before 14), but that obviously has no brand flare that they might identify with.

    Cobra Kai Never Die!!!

Serious what Roper said is a good idea, use to animal associated with martial dragon, tiger etc sounds good.

Fire Dragon was a great name in the past.

when I was a teen I loved all this imagery, and badges with chinese/jap writing. Teens love to look cool !!

    Colm,

I've been thinking, and not working as ever!!!! Here some food for thought that might jog some posters minds.

It's gotta be triple barrell and straight to the point!!!
    Apprentice
Intermediate (Think of things that signify transition)
    Some military link
Maybe Greek or Roman (Callidus Parum Manchus = Clever Little Monkeys)
Animals as above (Something dark, rightious, cool ... seriously ... like a dark haired Prince or a panther)

... I'm going to lunch, I'll think of more stuff and post later...

    ...'til then

Callidus Parum Manchus is the winner for me so far. Mind you the hairy prince panthers might have something going for it.

Oh Colm, that link is finally on my site ;)

    Thanks Roper.

Personally I'm thinking of Young Spartans, since Two Kings represents the two royal houses of Sparta (incidentally there were two kings in the Tenacious D song "City Hall".

It has warrior and wrestling connotations, as well as acting as a homage to the man who brought running and Thai boxing into my life.

Didn't the Spartans used to leave some of their weaker children to die off in the mountains? That may not be the best mental image to be giving off to parents.

I was thinking maybe a Gladiators theme! Might resonate more with kids/teens then Spartans. Maybe throw in an irish theme. A few things off my head:

    Celtic Gladiators
    Clever Little Gladiators
    eh! more to come!

I think you should carry the monkeys theme on and pick some kinda primate.

Clever Little Monkeys -> Gorilla JJ -> Two Kings.

Think CrazyKev came up with it first (Silverbacks)

Works aswell with the whole SBG association thing.

Silverbacks for sure. But if not,

    Corinthians
    Buccaneers
    Swashbuckleers
    Pirates
    Harlequins
    AIL Division 3 club name

    Hey Colm,

I cant remember the name but the Spartan had a name for recruits who had not yet become adults. I could look it up for you but i'm sure someone else will post it up. Incidentally the name Ludus Magnus Gladiatore is taken. (that was where the gladiators had their final session before going into the arena.

    Hope this helps

    According to Wikipedia:
"The Spartans believed that encouraging the older, accomplished men of the city to have loving relations with adolescents was conducive to their education and the good of the city. Consequently, the title of the older lover was eispnelas, "inspirer," and for the younger beloved, aitas, "hearer." Male-to-male relationships served as a way to reinforce the masculine education of the Spartan boys."
 ..maybe Spartans isn't such a good name.

seriously though including wrestling in the title might attract WWE fans who will think its cool that they're in fact doing REAL wrestling.

    They were called the Crypteia.

Although if you choose to use that name, you may have to convince their parents to ignore the boy-bumming connotations.

    Guardian Angels MMA :D

Think about it you got get them all red berets for their Gracie style train into the ring.

Their parents will thinks it cool to have a vigalante group member in the family, which would make them think their kids are learning good morals.

Plus a slight play on words.... parents think there kids are angels & you're helping them with there Guard (ok I know that's a stretch !)

How about playing on the word Sub, as meaning both sumission and under (as in under the senior section) ?

Subterrainian Homesick Monkeys? :( ( sorry that's weak)

I dunno I'm just a Bad Idea guy!?!

Once you get to that age, it doesnt matter what you call it, your mates will always find a reason to take the pi$$.

Something completely neutral just like "SBG" is cool. If they want to tell people what it means, they can.

However, it depends why you want to call it anything at all - Is it for marketing reasons...branding? Or to make the kids feel part of a team?

Hello from Australia by the way....!
