Male breasts

So I've finally admitted it.:o i've developed man breasts and I'm finding it extremely embarressing at this stage. I used to kinda have pecs but back problems meant I stopped lifting weights (not heavy ones but lots of reps), and I just stopped doing exercise. I started running etc last year and usually exercise around 4 hours a week but I eat too much and drink an awful lot of beer (18 pints a week at least) so they're still there. Obviously I'm cutting down on beer (may switch entirely to wine) and food, but I'm looking for advice on how best to get rid of them exercise wise - I've been told just basic running by some people but that creates probs for me because my back still seizes up and others have recommended doing incline bench presses but not sure about lifting weights again. Not much can be done with my back - i have a locked vertebrae in my lower spine, a partially frozen shoulder and a partially calcified muscle so it's a problem I'll always have. Any advice would be most appreciated and no piss taking please

Agreed.Do you have a bit of a belly as well? The two tend to go hand in hand if its just a bit of fat.You could try swimming or stationary bike, cut back on carbs such as bread, give up sugar compleetly and if possible try to knock teh beer on the head or switch to light beer.

Just on the 18 pints of beer, the hops in beer promote estrogen which wouldn't help your cause in that department. I would recommend cutting back on the alcohol full stop- until you get your self healthy again.

Also *IF* you smoke a bit of the other..give that up too..it promotes oestrogen as well.

Then its just a bit of fat you're carrying.Check the sticky above for weight loss.Give it about 6 weeks and you'll be laughing!

Instead of drinking wine or beerk (wine is very fattening as well - 8 weight watchers points in a bottle) why not try Bulmer's light? If you put it in a pint glass of ice, it feels like your drinking a pint of bulmers - but its only 1 weight watchers point.

Tastes like piss though, but id imagine your 18th pint wouldn't taste the best either.

Other option is Coors light which is 1 and a half weight watchers points per bottle. You can really make a killing weight loss wise in the alcohol department. 18 pints a week = about 54 weight watchers points. Thats an awful lot of food - maybe 9 large dinners.

Sorry for talking in WW points - they are easier for me to understand.

Look up gynecomastia on google although there's no telling what's causing this for definite. You can't spot reduce so it's going to be all or nothing.

Too embarressed to go to the pool at the moment, will try and lose some weight by cutting down on beer and food. Maybe invest in a second hand rowing machine?

What has WWM got to say on this matter?

    Anyway, EAT LESS, EXCERCISE MORE!

hate to say it, but the beer is probably one of the main contribituting factors here. 18 pints of beer is about 5400 calories, that's 2-3 days of food for a person trying to lose weight. On top of that, that much beer would also have a (small) effect on your bodies hormonal balance, increasing the breast causing estrogen hormones.

those two factors acting synergistically probably would account for a great deal of the problem. If you can hack it with your back, try starting off with fast paced walking, ideally early morning before breakfast (this will provide the most fat-burning advantage). Laying off the beer is a must. Being a student myself, it's difficult to break the habit, but once you start seeing the results I think you'll find it's worth it.

I would be in the same boat as the OP.

Basicly you have to change yor habits completely.

Dont drink any more beer and see the weight fall off you.

There is no such thing as bad foods only bad diets, WW and the other thousands of diets are unless.

Eating less calories a day is the wrong thing to do, eat the calories you should for a man of your size and height. Increase your exercise rate to loose weight.

Eat little and often, instead of three meals a day, go over six smaller meals.

    Drink water only.

Swimming is embrassing alright but it will help you loads. And as you notice the weight falling off it will boast your confidence. I have had a few lads in the pool throw a joke, throw one back at them and no more is said.

For me its a combination of being over weight and a feck up thyroid so good luck with your plan, and stick to it and by christmas you ll notice a new you.

By simply changing my diet alone I went from 22.5 stone to 16.5 stone in under 9 months.

    OP your eating crap. Stop.

I spent 4 months going to the gym before work and running my bollocks off, lifting weight and actually ended up putting on weight - muscle - i.e. got heavier because of it. There was absolutely no progress so i obiouvsly lost motivation and gave it up.
Muscle is more dense than fat so you will plateau or maybe increase on the scales, but you will start to shed inches instead.
Personally I'd prefer to look 12 stone and weigh 13 than look 13 and weigh 12...

also, you must keep in mind that increasing your muscle mass increases the amount of calories you burn by simply walking around. muscle tissue burns calories... fat tissue does not.

are ur nipples sore to touch.. and if u squeez them do they lactate ( liquid comes out from them mostly always clear but can be black. if there not tender or lactating there just fat deposits and not gyno... do u take any medication for ur back.. like any form of steriods

@Kluivert - have u had success losing them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,399 ✭✭✭kluivert

No working on it though, dont give a $hit really.

Its pure fat and when i start back into swimming and and the gym ill know it ll all go away. I have a verccua on my foot, need to get rid of that first.

I was on steriods on a couple of chest infections I had last year, found out that tehy dont help matters at all.

Seriously exercise especially cardio is the best solution and a proper diet and then start to build some muscle and bobs ur uncle.

it will if its fat only but if u done steriods it could be Gyno which the only way to get rid of is by an operation. if tgey were prescribed steriods then ur doc should have no prob in refering u to a specialist

Linoge is bang on. Taking one aspect of any regime and isolating it makes it simple to discredit. If you took a fighters calorie intake, neglecting all the cardio and weights you'd be doing, as well as eating very cleanly, it'd look ridiculous - "my mate went on this stupid 5,000-6,000 calorie a day diet and got really fat".

    To OP,

Just a note to say that beer, bread and almost everything nice contains gluten, which causes swelling, I did a food allergy test and found out im allergic to gluten, I've sort of cut out wine, beer and bread from my diet and have lost a good bit of weight, I'm a long way off my "ideal" weight but I'm impressed, what a difference a simple test can make.. Its also given me a confidence boost with the knowledge of what I can and cannot eat/drink.

Also I heard that red wine is especially high in gluten, and of all the beers Budweiser seems to have the least. I'm not 100% on the Bud....

A lot of health shops do the tests.

    Good Luck!

They where prescribed steriods that you took with the antibotics for chest ingections and in 2005 I had at least 4 or 5 I was always sick last year. I weigh 15.5 stone and should weigh in around 12.5-13 stone for my age and height.

I want to get down to take weight first and if still there, then go see the doc about it.

I agree with the last post there, allergy test is a good way to start the ball rounding.

I heard that red wine is especially high in gluten

you sure about this? Did a search and can't see it confirmed anywhere.
Cannot see where wheat is used in making wine..
    Thanks.

Chillax , the point was made that the OP's problem will be complicated, and deffo involve some diet changes. Do you not think it is best to discuss the benefits of any diets mention so that the OP can see the strenghts and weaknesses of them, and also the important on a LONG TERM plan, using his current situation as a drive to sort one out????

There is a difference between discussing the strenghts and weaknesses of a topic than arguing between each other over what the other person has commited on.

Weight Watchers is good if your eat excessively thats my opinion.

Like I said before, the purpose of a diet is to lose weight in the short term, changing your dietery habits to a healthier one will mean that your body weight will be normal as well as your level of fitness.

There is no such thing as bad foods just bad diets.
