My Dad's 70th is coming up soon. I want to throw a party for him, but I want to do something different.

    Any ideas?

A pajama party tbh.. Hugh Hefner gets away with it every weekend!!

But on a less serious note, if he's into Trad music - get a 3 piece band into his local for the night. I had one for my 21st and it was the best night ever.. everyone aged from 16 - 90 had a great night.

    and so on.

Different to the usual hire a function room in a pub, buffet with coldcuts, sh'te dj etc. etc. etc.

Well, there is four of us, and we'd be willing to spend about €300 each.

Trad music, that's a good suggestion, he'd like that.

If you want to go for something different take a look on here. http://www.tourismresources.ie/cht/castles.htm It is a website through which you can hire a castle, some are very expensive but others might be in your budget for one night hire and would make an unusual party venue.
